The field officers of DILG Bohol underwent a Training-Seminar on Engineering for Non-Engineers on April 21-24, 2015 at the Bohol Tropics Resort in Tagbilaran City.

According to LGOO VI Ma. Reina Quilas, the training is meant to equip the field officers with basic knowledge in engineering that they use in monitoring and gathering data for different projects implemented, mostly BEA projects. It was emphasized that the training would not make engineers out of the participants, but somehow it would give them the importance and knowledge about engineering, transforming MLGOOs into technical staff.

Participants included not only Bohol MLGOOs but also Cebu MLGOOs from municipalities/cities implementing BEA projects. Invited speakers included Engr. Wilfredo “Willie” S. Lopez and Engr. Virgilio Columna. The first three days of the training seminar was dedicated to discussing the technical terms and the basics of engineering. The morning of the fourth day was spent on field visits to DPWH 1 office and actual construction sites in Maribojoc and Loon. The participants were then asked to present their observations from the field visit. The speakers gave their comments based on the observations presented.

The training seminar was deemed successful given the response and level of participation by the attendees. The next step will be a project management training which is yet to be scheduled.
